There are a few different ways that you can test the hydrogen in your water and what you need to know about these methods

Gas Chromatograph Instrument

  • Directly measures the molecules of Hydrogen.
  • This is the most accurate method of testing the hydrogen in the water.

Electronic Meter

  • All meters are testing the ORP (oxidation reduction potential), and convert that measurement to hydrogen PPM.
  • This measurement does not directly measure the molecules of Hydrogen resulting in an inaccurate reading
  • How it works: When you get water out of an RO system, you get “dead water” with no electric properties. When you take RO water and run it through the system and go through the hydrogen generator, the h2 process creates negative mV (millivolts). The more negative the mV, the better.

Blue reagent

  • This will only show that hydrogen is present in the water
  • Blue reagent is extremely hard to do correctly (water temp, dissolved solids, pH of water, altitude, how fast you stir - all are factors that will change the outcome)
  • Your elevation will affect the PPM's so the higher they are, the lower the reading will be due to the atmospheric pressure (same as if in a plane)
  • If copper pipes and chloramine are present you will not get an accurate test.
