Hydrogen-enriched water should be fresh and odorless. If you’re picking up anything funky, it's usually due to the water source you’re using or possibly some mold/bacteria growth or mineral deposits inside your bottle. But no worries, we’ll sort this out together!
Potential Causes and Solutions
The water you use plays a big role here. Sometimes, certain minerals can sneak in and give your water unique aromas or flavors. Mold can also influence the smell and taste in a big way! Here are some handy steps to troubleshoot and fix the issue:
1. Water Selection
Consider switching to distilled or reverse osmosis (RO) water for your hydrogenation cycles. These types of water have a neutral taste and smell as they remove most impurities and minerals.
2. Water Storage
It's best not to leave a large amount of water in your bottle when you’re not using it. Doing so can promote mold and mildew growth or abnormal mineral deposits.
Here’s a pro tip: just put enough water in the bottle to cover the generator and leave the cap off while you sleep. This will let any condensation inside the cap dissipate and help prevent mold growth. If you’re going to be away from your bottle for a while, remember to place the plug back on your generator to keep all the water from evaporating.
3. Cleaning
- Bottle and Cap: Wash them by hand using filtered water (not tap water) and non-abrasive dish soap. Avoid dishwashers and fully submerging the product. Ensure the electrical components and charging port stay dry.
- Cap Rim and Seals: Check for mold under the seals and around the cap rim. A Q-tip soaked in vinegar works wonders for cleaning this area and preventing mildew growth in the threads of your cap or under the seals.
4. Descaling
Fill the bottle 1/4 full with diluted (50/50 mix) white vinegar & filtered water. Let it soak overnight and then run a 10-minute cycle using the solution already in the bottle. After the cycle dump the solution and give it a good rinse with warm filtered water.
