Understanding the Manufacturer Warranty
- Duration: The manufacturer warranty lasts for 5 or 10 years and is prorated.
- Coverage: It typically covers manufacturing defects and workmanship issues but does not include accidental damage.
- Proration: As time passes, the manufacturer's warranty may only cover a portion of the repair or replacement cost, with the customer paying the balance.
Product Protection Overview
- Duration: The product protection begins from the date of purchase and ends depending on the length of the protection plan selected (2, 3, or 4 years)
- Full Coverage: Unlike the prorated manufacturer warranty, the product protection provides 100% coverage for repair or replacement costs.
- This coverage can be utilized until the total value of the item has been used.
- For example, if a repair costs 25% of the item’s value, you can have the item repaired up to four times at no additional cost within the selected coverage period.
- However, if a full replacement is needed, this covers the total value of the item and the product protection has been used
- Accidental Damage: The product protection also includes accidental damage, which the manufacturer warranty does not cover.
How They Work Together
-
During the Manufacturer Warranty Period:
- If an issue arises during the manufacturer warranty period (e.g., the first 5 or 10 years), the manufacturer warranty is the first line of coverage.
- If the manufacturer warranty provides only partial (prorated) coverage, the product protection covers the remaining cost, ensuring the customer doesn’t incur any additional expenses
-
Accidental Damage Throughout:
- The extended warranty immediately covers accidental damage from day one, as this is not part of the manufacturer warranty.
