Mold growth in your Echo device can affect its performance and hygiene. Proper maintenance and the type of water you use play crucial roles in preventing mold. This article provides comprehensive guidelines on how to keep your Echo device mold-free.
Importance of Water Quality
The type of water you use in your Echo Go+ can significantly influence mold growth. Here's an in-depth look at different types of water and their effects:
- Best Choice: Distilled or RO Water – Ideal for preventing mold due to its lack of minerals and contaminants.
- Next Best: Filtered Water – A good alternative if distilled water is unavailable.
- Avoid Unfiltered Tap Water – It can lead to mineral buildup and an increased risk of mold. Tap water should never be used in your Echo bottles or pitchers.
Maintenance Tips
Regular maintenance is key to preventing mold in your devices. Follow these steps for optimal care:
Regular Cleaning (as often as desired)
- Washing:
- Wash the bottle housing and cap by hand using a non-abrasive dish detergent.
- Avoid using abrasive cloths or sponges to prevent scratches on your bottle.
- Do not cleanse or add soapy water to the generator.
- Focus on the Cap:
- Clean the cap and under the seals to prevent buildup. Be gentle, as the seals can tear easily.
- Be careful not to let water get inside the pressure release valve located in the center of the cap.
- Important:
- Never put your Echo products in the dishwasher.
- Avoid getting the generator’s electrical areas and charging port wet.
- Do not submerge the cap, as water can enter through the pressure release valve.
Deep Cleaning & Descaling (Once or Twice a Month):
- Prepare Descaling Solution: Mix one part white vinegar or citric acid with three parts water.
- Descale the Generator: Pour the solution into the bottle and allow it to soak overnight to descale the electrodes.
- For Tougher Grime, Mold, or Odors: Use a vinegar soak (no water added) for at least 2-3 hours or overnight.
- Remove the Silicone Seals: Gently remove the silicone seals from the cap and the base near the generator.
- Clean the Seals and Crevices: Dampen a Q-tip with vinegar and clean the crevices and the cap threads where the seals were located, removing all residues.
- Rinse Thoroughly: Rinse the seals and clean areas thoroughly with filtered water to remove any cleaning solution.
- Replace the Silicone Seals: Carefully place the silicone seals back into their positions, ensuring a secure fit to prevent leaks.
- Final Rinse: The next day, dump the descaling solution and rinse the bottle thoroughly with warm filtered water.
