Why Does My Echo Flask™ Drip, Leak or Purge Water?

Finding water underneath your Echo Flask™ can be concerning! The good news is that moisture underneath the Flask does not necessarily mean it is defective. In many cases, what you’re seeing is normal water purging from the generator.
 

A small amount of dripping from the oxygen port can occur during normal operation of your Echo Flask™.

🎓 Why Does My Echo Flask™ Drip, Leak, or Purge Water?

Your Echo Flask™ produces molecular hydrogen through electrolysis. During this process:

  • Hydrogen is generated and dissolved into your drinking water.
  • Oxygen is separated and safely vented through the oxygen exhaust port located on the bottom of your Flask, from the generator.
  • Pressure naturally develops inside the Flask.
  • Small-to-medium amounts of moisture or condensation may occasionally be expelled through the oxygen exhaust port.

The amount of moisture purged can vary. Water temperature, mineral content, dissolved gases, altitude, humidity, consecutive hydrogen cycles, and how long the Flask remains pressurized can all influence how much water is purged.
 

Because water, oxygen, pressure, and electrolysis are all part of the process, you may occasionally notice an area of moisture underneath the Flask that is roughly the size of the Flask base, although it may sometimes be slightly smaller or larger. This can be normal operating behavior and does not necessarily indicate a defect.


💡 Hydrogen Generation Is Not a Perfectly Dry Process


A helpful way to think about it is this: An air conditioner is designed to cool air, yet it still produces condensation as a normal byproduct of operation.


Similarly, the Echo Flask™ is designed to generate hydrogen-rich water, but because water, oxygen, pressure, and electrolysis are all involved in the process, a small amount of moisture may occasionally be expelled. This moisture is typically not a leak—it's simply a byproduct of the technology working exactly as intended.
 

🤔 Is Your Flask New or Recently Back in Use?

You may notice that purging happens on some days and not others. More noticeable purging can occur when your Flask is newer or after an extended period without use, and it may lessen with continued use as the pressure-release system settles in.
 

This can also happen if the Flask arrived dry or has dried out and the generator needed additional time to fully rehydrate.
 

We recommend running at least 10 full hydrogen cycles of 10–20 minutes each. You’re welcome to drink the hydrogen water from those cycles—there’s no need to waste it!
 

As you continue using the Flask, pay attention to:

  • How much water is being purged.
  • How frequently it happens.
  • Whether the amount decreases with continued use.

In many cases, the purging will become less frequent, decrease in volume, or stop altogether.
 

💡 How to Minimize Purging

A few simple habits can help:

  • Fill the Flask only to the shoulder, leaving enough space for proper pressurization and pressure release.
  • ALWAYS release the pressure after each hydrogen cycle, especially when running multiple cycles. Avoid leaving the Flask pressurized for extended periods.
  • ALWAYS place the Flask on a water-safe surface while generating hydrogen. Because some purging can occur, avoid operating it on surfaces that could be damaged by moisture.

💧 Is the Water Coming From the Lid?

If water is coming from the lid or upper portion of the Flask, check the gray silicone gasket inside the lid. A gasket that is dirty, twisted, rolled, slightly out of position, or installed incorrectly can sometimes allow water to escape. Overfilling the Flask can also contribute to leaking around the lid.

Clean the gasket and lid area, make sure the gasket is seated correctly, and confirm that the Flask is filled only to the shoulder before testing it again.

Check and Reset the Gasket (If Needed)

One of the most common causes of larger leaks from the lid area is a lid gasket that has become:

  • Missing
  • Dirty
  • Twisted
  • Rolled
  • Misaligned
  • Dislodged

A poor seal can affect pressure management and contribute to leaking from either the cap or the generator.

To reseat the gasket:

  1. Carefully remove the gray gasket using tweezers (avoid puncturing it).
  2. Reinsert the gasket with the alignment line facing inward.
  3. Close the lid using light downward pressure and twist until aligned.
  4. During a hydrogen cycle, gently press down on the lid for approximately 30 seconds.
  5. Repeat 2–3 times if needed to help the gasket settle into position.

💧 Is the Water Coming From the Bottle Itself?

If the moisture appears to be coming from somewhere other than the oxygen port or lid, please inspect the Flask carefully for:

  • Cracks or physical damage to the bottle.
  • Water underneath or inside the black exterior casing.
  • Water actively escaping from another area of the Flask.

If you see any of these, please inspect the bottle and let us know so we can take a closer look.

🔎 When Should We Take a Closer Look?

There is a difference between normal moisture purging and an actual leak.
 

Please contact our support team by reaching out to support@echowater.com if:

  • Water is actively running from the Flask in a continuous, steady stream (think river, not dripping).
  • The amount of water consistently exceeds the size of the Flask base after running 10 hydrogen cycles.
  • Water appears to be coming from somewhere other than the lid or oxygen exhaust port, and the troubleshooting in the article did not resolve your concern.
  • You see a crack or water underneath the exterior casing.

Unfortunately, a photo alone usually isn’t enough for us to determine the source or severity of a leak. While it can show us the water left behind, it doesn’t allow us to see where the water originated or how the Flask was behaving while actively running.

Our Support Team will guide you through the following video requirements so we can take a more in-depth look at how your Echo Flask is operating and determine the appropriate next steps.

  • Completely dry the Flask and its base before beginning.
  • Start by showing the serial number on the bottom of the Flask for 3–5 seconds. Please keep it in focus so the complete number can be read.
  • Fill the Flask and start a hydrogen cycle.
  • Make sure the screen is visible long enough for us to see that the cycle is actively running.
  • Keep the camera focused on the area where the water is appearing.
  • Show the water actively coming from the Flask while the cycle is running for at least 10 seconds.
  • Please keep everything in one continuous video without cuts, whenever possible
