App | Firmware and Updates

Keeping your device firmware up to date is one of the easiest ways to make sure it’s running the way it should. Just like your phone gets updates to fix bugs and improve performance, your device receives firmware updates through the app that help with things like battery efficiency, cycle tracking, screen responsiveness, and overall reliability.

If something feels “off” with your device—like battery drain, screen issues, or inconsistent behavior—checking your firmware is always a great first step.

The app and firmware work together to keep your device running smoothly. That means:

  • Firmware updates improve how the device performs (battery, cycles, screen, etc.)
  • The app ensures those updates are delivered and installed correctly
  • Keeping both up to date helps prevent a lot of common issues before they start

Even if the app is having a temporary hiccup, your Flask will still produce hydrogen normally—but updating when available helps everything stay in sync.

App Updates

App updates are handled automatically if you have it set to automatically run updates in your operating system; they will need to be run manually in your app.

  • When you open the app, you may see a pop-up highlighting recent changes or improvements.

Don’t have the Echo Water App yet?

The app is your gateway for firmware updates, and it also gives you access to personalization features, cycle controls, and device insights. Without it, your Flask may not be running the most current version.

How to check your firmware version

  • Open the Echo Water app
  • Navigate to the “Devices” section
  • Select your Flask

You’ll see the current firmware version listed there.
⭐️ The most current version is: v1.4.8 (8.4)

If your device is below this version, you’ll want to run the update to ensure everything is working as intended.

How to update your Firmware

Updating is simple and only takes a few minutes:

  • Open the Echo Water App
  • Go to your Profile
  • If an update is available, you’ll see a prompt to start it
  • Ensure you have at least 50% battery life and keep your Flask nearby with Bluetooth on while it updates

‼️ It’s important to run and fully complete the update—unfinished updates can sometimes cause performance issues like screen glitches or faster battery drain.

What to expect during an update

How long does it take?
Most updates take just a few minutes as long as your device is paired and Bluetooth remains stable.

Will I lose any data?
No data is deleted. Daily hydration history is saved as long as your device has been paired with the app at least once.

If the device was never paired, the following data is still retained:

  • Total hydrogen output

  • Completed cycle count

  • Current streak

Daily, day-by-day hydration logs cannot be recovered if the device was never paired.

Can the update happen without opening the app?
No. Firmware updates must be initiated from within the Echo Water App while your device is paired.

What if the update fails or is interrupted?
No worries—the app will automatically retry the update.

If you don’t see an update option

Sometimes it’s just a display setting hiding it. If your phone is zoomed in, parts of the app can get pushed off-screen.

If your operating system (phone, tablet etc.) is set to a zoom level above the default, some options may not appear—because they’re pushed “off screen” due to the extra magnification. But no worries—this is an easy fix!

For iPhone (iOS):

  1. Go to your Settings
  2. Tap Display & Brightness
  3. Select Display Zoom
  4. Choose Standard
  5. Then, fully close and restart your Echo Water app

For Android:

  1. Open your Settings
  2. Go to Display
  3. Tap Screen Zoom or Font Size
  4. Set it to Default or a smaller setting
  5. Close and relaunch the Echo Water app

If you still do not have an update available, please try the following steps:

Option 1: Remove all paired devices

  1. Check if more than one device is paired to the account.
  2. Remove/unpair all devices from the app.
  3. Re-pair only the device that is experiencing the issue.
  4. Once the problematic device is paired by itself, the firmware update should trigger automatically.

Option 2: Create a new app account

  1. Create a new app account.
  2. Pair only the problematic device to the new account.
  3. This should trigger the firmware update.

Important: If you create an account and later delete it, the email address associated with that account cannot be reused to create a new account in the app.

If the update still doesn’t appear after trying both options:

Firmware and Update Troubleshooting

🔧 Screen stuck on “Updating.”

  • Turn off Bluetooth on your operating system (phone, tablet etc.)  for at least 30 seconds, then turn it back on and reconnect
  • Try running a cycle through the app:
    • Open the app → Profile → Flasks
    • Tap the 3 dots next to your Flask
    • Select Start Cycle

If the bottle runs, check if the screen corrects itself.

If it’s still stuck:

  • Release any built-up pressure in the bottle (very important)
  • Run another cycle
  • Continue running cycles until the battery fully drains (ignore low battery warnings)
  • Once it dies completely, plug it in to charge

→ This full reset often helps clear the screen and restore normal function

🔧 Stuck between updates

  • Open the Echo app and pair your device
  • Tap into the device's personalization screen
  • Stay on that screen for about 30 seconds

You should see a message: “Something went wrong with the update, please upgrade manually.”

  • Tap the 3 dots (top right)
  • Select manual upgrade
  • Stay near the Flask and keep the app open while it completes

If you don’t see the message, close and reopen the app and try again.

If you’re experiencing app issues

This could include things like:

If this happens, please reach out using our support form and include:

  • The email used for the app (this may differ from the email you used to purchase your device)
  • The current firmware version you are running
  • Your device's serial number (usually located on the bottom of your device)

Good to know: even if the app is having issues, your Flask will still produce hydrogen normally. Most app issues can be resolved without affecting the device itself.

If Your Flask Has Issues After an Update

For example, if your Flask becomes unresponsive after a firmware update and troubleshooting has been unsuccessful, please file a claim so we can assist you quickly.

👉 Claim Portal

  • Log in using your order email (this may differ from the app email you used when signing up for the Echo Water app) and order number.
  • If purchased elsewhere, register your product first

If within the return window:

  • Select Return & Exchange
  • Choose: Product Issue → App Issue → Flask issue after update
  • Note your app email
  • Note the device serial number
  • Note the current firmware version you are running
  • Upload a video showing the serial number + issue

If outside the return window:

  • Select Warranty Claim
  • Choose: App Issue → Flask issue after update
  • Note your app email
  • Note the device serial number
  • Note the current firmware version you are running
  • Upload a video showing the serial number + issue

Good to know: Even if the app is temporarily experiencing issues, your Flask will continue producing hydrogen normally. You can keep using it with confidence while improvements are rolled out.

App-related issues are not covered under warranty unless they affect the functionality of your Flask. Most app issues can be resolved without impacting Flask performance.
